Recently, a picture of a banyan tree in Uttar Pradesh is getting viral and the reason for the hype will blow your mind. This tree is standing still at Bulandshahr for 500 years. Narora In Uttar Pradesh Is Home To The World’s Oldest Banyan Tree

Twitter user Srikanth Matrubai (@SrikantMatrubai) took to the micro-blogging platform to share a picture of this 500-year-old tree discovered in Uttar Pradesh’s Narora. Along with a photo of this much-talked-about tree, he also shared some interesting facts about it.

Srikanth Matrubai shared in the caption of the tweet that the tree is named “Kalpavriksha”. This 5-centuries old banyan tree is spread over a circumference of over 4,069 sq m. It is a humongous tree and also the 10th largest banyan tree on the earth.

This Tree Has Been Discovered Very Recently!

A joint team of many scientists has worked on this process of finding out the oldest banyan tree in the world. According to a report by DNA India, the team constituted of scientists from these places:

  • Botanical Survey of India in Prayagraj Centre
  • Babe-Bolyai University in Romania
  • A lab in Johannesburg

These scientists were conducting a floristic survey in the Upper Ganga Ransar, as reported by The Times of India. During this research, the team came across this banyan tree and discovered its estimated age of about 500 years.

After the research, they found out that the tree is living for about 500 years now. The longevity of 5 centuries shows that the renowned banyan tree in Howrah’s Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden is not the oldest anymore.
