Uttarakhand’s Benital To Turn Into Astro Village With Large Telescopes & Astronomical Dome For Stargazing

Forget Mussoorie and Nainital, travel enthusiasts! Uttarakhand is home to many underrated hill stations that have so much to offer. Right from pristine spiritual lakes, fruit orchards, fishing locations to panaromic points to witness mountain ranges, the list is endless. Now, the hilly state is all set to transform Benital into an astro-village. Benital will be equipped with large telescopes and astronomical domes for stargazing. Here’s why Benital must be on your wishlist.

Benital To Attract Tourists With Stunning Stargazing Opportunities

The Chamoli district administration has started putting efforts to develop Benital as an astro-village. District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana led his team to map up projects in the area nestled in the Karnaprayag block. Situated at an altitude of 2,600 metres above sea level, Benital can offer once-in-a-lifetime stargazing opportunities to eager travellers. Tourists can get easy access to witness planets, stars, constellations and astronomical events. But before that, Benital needs an astro-village makeover. This includes a night vision dome and large telescopes.

Uttarakhand Tourism Dept To Develop Cottages, Restaurants & Tents

Moreover, according to TOI, Khurana revealed that the Tourism Department shall build cottages, a tent platform, pathways, two parking lots and a restaurant with a reception. An estimated amount of ₹5 crores will be allocated for the project. Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam will be in charge of developing Benital into an astro-village. Khurana has urged the department to first start repairing the road from Simli to Benital. He believes Benital has the potential to attract tourists. Once it turns into an astro-village, it can lead to various self-employment opportunities in the tourism sector for the locals.
