Women Are Learning Skiing In Gulmarg Thanks To This CA-Turned-Professional Skier

Skiing is a fun adventure sport loved by many. However, the sport has always been majorly dominated by men. Lately though, there has been a gradual change. An increase in the number of solo female travellers who end up learning skiing in Gulmarg has been witnessed. This is a welcome change since the sport has largely been male-dominated. This significant rise in female skiers can largely be attributed to this chartered accountant-turned-professional skier.

Women Are Learning Skiing in Gulmarg

Gulmarg is one of the most beautiful spots in Kashmir and is famous around the globe for skiing. People from all over the world flock to Gulmarg in order to experience the thrill of speedily sliding down from the icy planes of the majestic mountains.

Ritika Garg, who was a Chartered Accountant in Mumbai, wanted to experience this thrill for herself. She went to Kashmir on a vacation despite her family’s warning against it, and with dread in her heart because of Kashmir’s portrayal in the media.

However, once she went there, she fell so in love with the place that she decided to never come back. She left her corporate job, trained as a skier, and settled there. For her, skiing was a life-changing experience.

She decided to pay this forward and founded a company that trains women from diverse age groups how to ski.

The small travel company, High-On-Trips, started by Garg trains women in skiing. With Khelo India Winter Games beginning in Kashmir, many women are also participating in this adventure sport. According to Garg, in the past two years, she has trained about 35 women how to ski. The ages of these women ranged from 18 to 35.

She wanted other women to experience the same magic that she did back in 2021 when she first came to Kashmir for a week and ended up staying for six months straight.
