The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) run the Dubai organisation that has 5,700 cars. The majority of the cars are on the road 24 hours a day, with drivers working 12-hour shifts.

The expansion of Careem and its parent firm, Uber, which links privately held limo businesses with clients via their applications, has boosted demand. However, in recent months, supply has outstripped demand.

Thousands of drivers got in the process and were sent to Expo 2020 Dubai, which runs from October 1 to March 31. And cabs are particularly scarce in that section of town. With thousands of new immigrants every month, the city has witnessed a post-pandemic population boom. As a CSR activity, RTA supports the low earning groups with free licences.
