Delhi VS Mumbai Kalesh: “Third World Ick,” Social Media Post Dissing Mumbai Sparks Fresh Debate; Netizens Not Happy

The debate of which city between Delhi and Mumbai is better has been going on since time immemorial. It never reaches a consensus and always ends up offending everyone. This latest instant was no different. Someone recently made a controversial and arrogant post dissing Mumbai and understandably, it did not go over well with Netizens. While many agreed with the post, what peeved them the most was the tone and the inherent classist underpinnings of the post.

Delhi VS Mumbai Kalesh: Post Calls Mumbai Disgusting

A post recently made on X (formerly known as Twitter) dissed Mumbai and stirred up fresh drama. The user said that after living in New Delhi for a while, coming back to Mumbai gave them the “Third World Ick.”

They even went on to call the city “disgusting,” and that coming back to the city gave them “middle-class trauma.” The user then said they had been stuck in traffic outside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or CSMIA in Mumbai.

Despite the fact that the user left the airport around 40 minutes ago, they had only managed to get 600 metres away from it. Understandably, many people flocked to the comments section, aggravated more by the tone than by the message of the post. Some even said that the user was purposely stirring up drama because they were bored while stuck in traffic.

This Is How Netizens Reacted To This Particular Post

Many people responded as one would expect them to – by asking them to go back to Delhi. There were some, however, who agreed that the infrastructure of the city needed improvement.

However, the use of phrases like “third-world ick” and “middle-class trauma” indicated hostility and classist overtones that did not sit well with the many proudly middle-class Mumbaikars who work hard and struggle every day.

Posts like this serve as a reminder that while criticisms of a place are acceptable, the disrespectful and problematic tone of the post is not.
