The Department of Fisheries mentioned that they produce enough fish for the people of Assam and the quantity is perfect to serve the needs. According to a report by The Sentinel, Assam imports around 45 MT fishes from various states of India.  These are imported every single day from places such as Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and more. The biggest concern of these imported products is that they have poisonous formalin and this chemical is disadvantageous. The Department of Biology of Nowgong College has conducted a study on this as well.

Authorities To Conduct More Tests On The Same

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam shared that more tests will take place to know all about the use of formalin in these fishes imported from outside Assam. If the results turn out to be excessive use of formalin, then they will ban such imports.
