Delhi Airport On Alert; Passengers Advised To Arrive 4 Hours Prior To Flights

A general alert was issued in the capital on Monday in light of Independence Day, and the scrapping of Article 370. The security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and other airports across the country have been increased manifold keeping in mind the developments in Jammu and Kashmir, and the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. Delhi Airport is on Alert until further notice and here are other details anyone travelling this long weekend need to know.

According a tweet made by Delhi Airport Operator- Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) on Wednesday, 7th August 2019, Domestic flyers are urged to reach the airport 3 hours prior to their flight, while International flyers have to reach 4 hours before their departure time.

That’s not it. According to a following tweet, entry to the meet and greet area will be barred from 10th August to 20th August.

Security agencies will be conducting thorough checks on the approach road, and checking each and every vehicle entering the airport premise. This may cause a notable delay for the passengers to reach the terminal. Stricter frisking may also cause a delay.

Generally the minimum time to reach Delhi airport for domestic flights is 1 hour and international flight is 2 hours. But for now, until further notice, the time has been increased to 3 hours for Domestic flights and 4 hours for International flights.

In the wake of this increased security, 3o00 additional Delhi Police Personnel have been deployed on the Delhi airport, metro stations, market places, bus terminals, railway stations, shopping and important government buildings.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for looking after the security at the Delhi Airport requested the passengers to not panic and cooperate during the alert. Since the security has been tightened, passengers may be asked to step aside and cooperate for stringent baggage check and frisking.
