Fried Chicken Expert
Move over all global fried chicken bigwigs, the baap of all fried chicken is in Delhi. For years, the Jama Masjid area is known for its mouth-watering food. And here’s one more landmark to note. It’s Haji Mohammed Hussain. Been there, done that for over 40 years. That place knows fried chicken better than anyone else.
Don’t expect anything fancy. It’s a small little joint with some seating on the upper floor (soft drinks are also served there!). But most people just stand and dig into the yummy chicken. There’s a quaint joy in such an experience too. Messy, not sanitized, but always occupies the dearest spot in the memory space.
What’s Their Secret?
At Haji Mohammed Hussain, the fried chicken is the crispiest. If you’re wondering how, the answer lies in their frying technique. They fry the chicken twice. Once half-fried they remove the chicken, cut it into pieces and then fry it again. This creates a crispy outer layer, while the chicken inside remains tender and moist. Intense masala is sprinkled to make the outer crispy covering yummier. The chicken is served with soft rumali rotis, their signature spicy chutney, green chilies and raw onions. Just the accompaniments you need to round off this sumptuous circle.
Yes, their chicken is more famous. But that shouldn’t stop you from sampling their fried fish too. It’s just as crispy, and comes in two variations – Standard and XXX
If you ever thought “It’s only fried chicken, how great can it get!” head to Haji Mohammed Hussain. One meal and you’ll know what all the excitement around it is about.
