Recently, a study found out that ‘India’s golden spice’, turmeric, is as effective in treating indigestion as antacids. And now India has launched a National Turmeric Board to boost turmeric exports by a whopping $1 billion by 2030. Read on to know what this new turmeric board aims to achieve in India and abroad.
National Turmeric Board Set Up With Aim To Increase Turmeric Exports
According to a report by NDTV, the government has launched a National Turmeric Board to promote the growth and development of turmeric products both in India and abroad. Currently, India is the world’s top producer, exporter and consumer of turmeric. With a 62 per cent share of the global market, India aims to expand its reach. And take its turmeric exports from the current ₹1600 crore to a whopping milestone of $1 billion (₹7000 crore) by 2030.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced the same to ANI after a Cabinet Meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further added to accomplish the target of ₹8400 crore in turmeric exports the government deemed it necessary to form the National Turmeric Board.
G. Kishan Reddy, the BJP state president and Union minister revealed to news agencies that the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat, Bengal, Odisha and MP majorly cultivate turmeric. This board will help set up processing units. This inturn shall help in its export.

Govt To Increase Awareness Of The Spice’s Health Benefits
Apart from focussing on exports, the National Turmeric Board shall also lay special emphasis on promoting the health benefits of the Indian spice. The board has a telos to boost both consumption and awareness about ‘India’s golden spice’ across the globe. The National Turmeric Board shall explore new international markets, empower turmeric growers with skill development and conduct research for innovative products.

Apart from its culinary use, turmeric has for time immemorial been an integral part of Ayurveda, India’s traditional medicine system. From its antiseptic properties to digestive benefits to its immunity-boosting properties, turmeric is mandatory in Indian kitchens. The board shall also focus on the well-being of turmeric growers. Further, cement its position as the world’s top exporter of high-quality turmeric and its products.
