Mumbai: FDA Finds Expired Food, Filthy Kitchens At Flint, Waarsa & Other Eateries; 6 Licences Suspended

FDA Finds Expired Food, Cockroaches & Hygiene Violations

According to a report by The Print, the measure was taken against Flint & Waarsa in south Mumbai, as well as with five other eateries, including hotels, restaurants and a bakery based in Borivali, Santacruz, Andheri, Bandra and Bhandup, as part of a statewide food safety inspection drive.

During an examination at Flint & Waarsa on June 27, FDA authorities found misbranded food products and collected five samples for laboratory inspection. They also confiscated stock worth ₹11,350 and discarded expired food items worth ₹16,201 that had been stored well past their expiry date.

Further inspections at the other locations uncovered several hygiene violations, including cockroaches, rats, poorly maintained kitchens and unsafe storage of raw food. The authorities also observed that some businesses lacked essential proof, while employee members had not completed the required health check-ups.

The FDA stated that the approvals were suspended due to serious lapses, including poor cleanliness standards, insufficient refrigeration facilities and the lack of a proper customer complaint grievance system.

31 Raids Conducted Across Maharashtra

As per the news portal, as part of the special drive that took place between June 26 and June 28, the FDA carried out 31 raids across Maharashtra. During the raid, officials retrieved banned products such as pan masala and gutkha worth ₹34.87 lakh, arrested 19 people for their alleged involvement in the sale, transportation and distribution of prohibited food items, sealed one business, and confiscated three vehicles.

The department further stated that it will continue carrying out strict inspections across the state to ensure food safety and the availability of safe, high-quality food items. It also warned that legal action will be taken against businesses found violating food safety regulations and putting public health at risk.
