Maharashtra To Promote Independence Tourism In Mumbai, Pune & Nagpur

Maharashtra is all set to promote independence tourism in the state to reignite public knowledge and create awareness on the contribution of Indian freedom fighters in India’s fight for independence. Historically significant places in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur will be developed for independence tourism. Read on to know more.

Maharashtra To Focus On Independence Tourism

Milind Borikar, Director of the Directorate of Tourism revealed to Deccan Herald in an interview that Maharashtra played a significant role in India’s freedom movement. He goes on to add that the independence tourism aims to attract the youth to historically rich places in the state. These places depict the sacrifices of renowned freedom fighters who were instrumental in India’s independence. Brochures have been created to revive the fading memories of the freedom movement for the same.

Visit Places Of Historical Importance Like Mani Bhavan, Yerawada Central Jail & More

The landmark places covered in the indpenece tourism initiative in Mumbai include Gateway of India, Azad Maidan, Bombay High Court, Mani Bhavan, the home of Dr Babasaheb Ambekar- Rajgriha, the guest house  frequented by leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and August Kranti Maidan. When in Pune, tourists can head to places like Aga Khan Palace, Kesari Wada, Rajguru Wada, Yerawada Central Jail, where freedom fighters like Netaji Subhash Chandra, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak were jailed.
