Mumbai Airport To Get The Underground Tunnel Post-Rainy Season
A part of Mumbai International Airport is all set to undergo an impressive transformation. The project of an underground tunnel linking Terminals 1 and 2 has been pending for years. However, the recent updates state that the much-awaited construction will commence after the monsoon season ends in Mumbai. According to a report by The Times of India, the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has already informed airlines about the plans for the upcoming tunnel project to begin in the next 3 to 6 months.
The much-anticipated underground tunnel will traverse under the cross runways. The proposed 3-lane tunnel will connect the bustling terminals of the Mumbai International Airport. Reports state that the entire augmentation will be completed in 2 phases. According to plans and preparations, the expected timeline to finish the tunnel project will take between a year and 16 months.
MIAL recently stated crucial information about this upcoming big-budget project. Teams of officials were present at the meeting. One of them shared with The Times of India that this project’s first phase will see teams of workers drilling towards the South side from Terminal 2. Next, it will continue towards Terminal 1.
