NEOM Update: A New Port Is Coming To Oxagon & Would Be Operational By 2025 In Saudi Arabia

The advanced, luxurious and most awaited project of Saudi Arabia has been pulling up new strategies every other day. The urban living project has a new port on board. The existing Duba port gets a new name as the Port of NEOM and would be considered as a part of the upcoming project. This will act as the main seaport for the northwest of the Kingdom.

Duba Port Is Now Called The Port Of NEOM

In order to turn regional ports into internationally viable shipping centres, NEOM took over the operation of Duba Port in 2022 from the Saudi Ports Authority. Since the handover, the port’s capabilities—including those for processing general and containerized goods—have been increased to accommodate the increasing volume of cargo entering NEOM. In 2022, NEOM took over the operation of Duba Port from the national maritime authority Mawani.

The innovative and clean industries of NEOM settle near Oxagon, the new location of this new port. The port will be a crucial facilitator for NEOM and a driver for more expansive business growth in the region. Why? Because it sits on the Red Sea, at the intersection of major international trade routes. The company’s ambition to open the first upgraded terminal in 2025 and its investment of over SAR 7.5 billion to date shows its dedication to the mission.

When Will The Port Commence Its Operations?

The first Container Terminal will include a unified supply chain and logistical solutions by the start of 2025. The port future will become the most ecological future-oriented port in the world over completion. We anticipate it to be operating at net carbon zero levels using entirely clean energy generated at the source.

In order to build the earthwork platforms for the construction of Oxagon, the reuse and recycling of building components and materials catches a priority. This will result in zero material release. Low-carbon steel frames play a major role in building the quay walls. These are a few attempts to lessen the project’s carbon footprint.

Oxagon aims to foster invention and draw in worldwide talent. It will revive economic advances and supply chain linkages on a global scale. On the Red Sea, the Port of NEOM will be serving all of the kingdom, NEOM and beyond.
