What Is It?
The Cochrane Place is a boutique hotel situated at the foothills of the majestic Himalayas in a quaint village of Kurseong, offering views of the famous Kanchenjunga mountain, overlooking the tea gardens perfect for a setback holiday weekend.
Cochrane Place is a restored British Colonial home, a cottage that was once home to the magistrate of Kurseong, Sir Percy John Cochrane, MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), hence the name.

It is now turned into a heritage hotel in stone, log and cast iron splendour with fine wooden paneling creating a British styled ambiance with a taste of the best tea in the country!
The place overlooks the Makaibari tea estate and is a few yards from the Castleton tea estate so you could go down for a tea trail in one of these with scenic views from there. The serpentine mountain roads will lead you to this place with breathtaking views of the orchids, forest infested mountains, and the ecstatic tea gardens. Now imagine sipping tea in an old English village with views of the tea gardens, it’s like sitting on a time machine.
What’s In It?
The rooms have a Burma Teak furnishing and the entire three floors of this hotel are done up with antique-wood paneling, objects denoting a bygone era like the gramophone, a fireplace, old rotary dial telephones, big kettle clocks and wooden ramps connecting all the rooms.
You can sense the charm of the colonial era in every nook and corner of this hotel and even taste it in their food. The place offers some great Anglo-Indian and colonial cuisines at their award-winning cafe called Chai Country. The heart-warming food will for sure keep you warm and satisfied.
You could also choose to unwind in their Spa, or play a game or two in their game room of cards, snooker, table tennis, etc. They even have a library with a great collection of books to keep you company at all times or just go on long walk amidst the greenery of tea gardens.
