The newly-launched Akasa Air helmed by investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala has already witnessed a flurry of passengers. And not just humans, even pets have taken quite a liking to fly on Akasa Air. Don’t believe us? Well, 410 dogs and cats have flown on Akasa Air since November 2022. Interestingly, Bengaluru accounts for the highest number of pets flown in the country during his period. Here’s all about this pet-flight story.

Akasa Air Witnesses Highest Pets & Pet Parent Fliers From Bengaluru

According to a report by the Times Of India, since November, over 400 pets have flown in Akasa Air. This number includes both cats and dogs. Out of this, a whopping 42 per cent of these pets flew with their pet parents from Bengaluru. Interestingly, while 80 per cent of the four leggers were canines, the rest were kitties.

Akasa Air’s Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Praveen Iyer revealed to TOI that exactly 410 pets flew on Akasa Air since November 2022. Iyer goes on to add the pets flew in the passenger cabin and cargo hold. Calling Akasa Air, a pet-friendly airline, he goes on to say that they’ve helped pet parents travel with their furry companions, mainly during the holiday season. Instead of them having to leave their beloved pets behind the airline helps them to fly with their pets.

What Are The Rules You Must Know?

The rules for flying with pets on Akasa Air goes as follows-

  • Passengers can travel with pets that weigh up to 7kg in a passenger cabin. But this includes a fee.
  • The charges for travelling with pets range from ₹4000 to ₹15,000 ( this depends on whether pets travel in a cargo hold or passenger cabin)
  • Akasa Air only permits passengers to fly with pet cats and dogs for now
  • The pets shall be placed in IATA-approved containers

Bengalureans seem to be opting to fly on Akasa Air in huge numbers. Chief Executive Officer of Akasa Air, Vinay Dube revealed to TOI that passenger numbers from Bengaluru ever since the launch of Akasa Air have been high. And with allowing pets to fly with the airline, the numbers have even gone higher. Until March, 160 pets flew from Bengaluru and you can expect much more in the months to come.
