According to a news report by News18, it was mentioned that the Union Minister, Pratima Bhowmick, admitted that it is expected that the rail route will start by Durga Puja as the work is nearly complete. Speaking about the railway link between India and Bangladesh, currently, there are four rail links.

These include Petrapole and Benaploe, Gede and Darshana, Radhikapur and Biral, and Singhabad and Rohanpur. As it happens, this new line will be connected via Akhaura, thereby connecting to the Dhaka Chittagong route.
