What Is It? 

In an era where Shakespeare was writing plays and Emperor Akbar ruled over India, the Figueiredo House was built. The Portuguese were its first occupants back in 1590, when the Taj Mahal didn’t even exist. This ethnic old home in South Goa has opened its doors for every traveler and it would be a privilege to spend a few days in a grand house that dates back centuries.

Spending your time there will help you discover the heritage of olden India where the Figueiredo family lived. This family has had a huge impact on Goa’s current lifestyle as well. The Figueiredo Museum in Goa is where you can find antique pieces, chandeliers and furniture used by old Goans.

What’s In It? 

Before the family left, they turned the house into a beautiful hotel with its 5 rooms and large corridors. You can walk past antique vases and stone carvings that you won’t find anywhere else. The rooms have high ceilings, gracious furniture and a garland of history attached to them. The Family Suite is combined into two rooms. One room has a giant double bed and the rest of the rooms have twin beds. Overall, it’s a perfect place to make your family feel at home.

The Figueiredo has renovated the place for guests by installing air-conditioning and Western bathrooms. Along with that, there’s a setting of a lounge where you can enjoy your evening tea. A beautiful garden where you can bask in the greenery.

What’s Unique? 

Apart from breath-taking interiors, the home has some culture attached to it. With a personal library inside the home, you can pick up a book and have a good read in the courtyard as well. Right in the front of the house, there’s an upstream where local fisherman try their luck. The area is so relaxing that it will ease your worries in no time. There’s also a village nearby where you can get a chance to interact with the locals and ask them about other attractions of the place.
