This Old Bengaluru Bus Is Now Converted Into A Solar Powered Toilet For Women

Women’s hygiene should be undoubtedly given utmost importance. During the 74th Indian Independence Day speech, PM Modi for the first time mentioned about women’s health and hygiene. The Prime Minister informed that his government provided sanitary napkins to 5 crore women at ₹1. And now the Karnataka government has gone one step further. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation ( KSRTC) turned an old bus into a solar-powered public toilet for women. This “Sthree toilet’ situated in Bangalore’s Majestic Bus Stand has many facilities to tend to every woman’s needs. Read on to know more about this first of a kind bus.

KSRTC Converts Old Bus Into Solar Powered Women’s Toilet Situated In Bangalore

KSRTC on July 27 repurposed an old bus into a women’s toilet. The Sthree toilet is an initiative of KSRTC along with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL). Currently you can find this pink coloured solar powered women’s toilet at the KSRTC bus terminus in Majestic. BIAL provided KSRTC with  ₹12 lakhs under its CSR funds for this ambitious project.

Facilities Provided By Bangalore’s Sthree Toilet

This bus has 6 toilets in total. It has 3 in Indian style and the rest in western. The Sthree toilet also has a shower area fitted with water sensors. It has other facilities prerogative to women including a breastfeeding room, diaper changing room, sanitary napkin dispensing machine, incinerator, solar sensor lights and a panic button.

The best part about this bus is that it makes full use of self-generated power through solar energy. So based on this pilot project, Karnataka shall convert many more old buses into public bio-toilets for women. These bio-toilets shall grace crowded bus stations.  Many women employees can tend to their needs here.

The current bus is situated at the Majestic Bus Stand in Bangalore. Thousands of people visit here every day across the state. So, the Sthree Toilet indeed shall help many women. And we laud this fantastic movement by the Karnataka government. Apart from Bangalore, Pune also has such buses that paved the way for women toilets in India.
