On Monday, September 5, 2022, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) provided details about the third generation of services it will provide, including an improved visa system. If you now live in the UAE or want to do so in the future for employment or business, here are the 10 important things to know about the UAE new visa system.

1. Date Of Coming Into Force

On October 3, 2022, the revised visa system will go into force.

2. New Visa System Give More Independence

Most residence possibilities under the new visa system are now independent of the employer, enabling self-sponsorship. According to Major General Yousef Al Nuaimi, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs at ICP, the initiative is to enhance residents’ quality of life and make a living, working, and investing in the UAE a pleasurable and joyful experience.

3. For How Many Years Is It valid? 

In contrast to a two- or three-year visa, the “green visa” is valid for five years. 

4. No Sponsor Required 

People with Green Visas will be sponsored only by themselves. Additionally, you can sponsor first-degree relatives. 

5. Grace Period Increases 

You may remain in the UAE for six months after the visa expires or gets revoked. For example, after a resident visa gets cancelled, you typically have one month to remain in the UAE. 

6. Who Can Apply For The Visa? 

If you fit into any of the following categories, you may submit an application for a Green Visa: 1. skilled employee. 2. Self-employed. 3. Partner or investor in a business venture.

7. New Entry Permit Visas 

New entrance permit categories are now available, and you don’t need a sponsor in the UAE to get this visa. Visas for job seekers, visas for pursuing business possibilities, and visas for pursuing investment opportunities are among the types.

8. Long Period For New Entry Permits

According to the ICP, the new entrance permits will also granted. However, for extended lengths of time, allowing for visitations of up to a year.

9. More Benefits For Golden Visa Holders

The resident visa will still be valid if you spend more than six months abroad in the United Arab Emirates.

10. Increase In The Age Of Sponsorship 

The sponsorship age restriction for sons of Golden Visa holders was increased from 18 to 25 years old.
