Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear chef attires. And the most striking example of it now is the renowned celebrity chef of India, Vikas Khanna. In the month of April, Khanna had started the #FeedIndia initiative, teaming up with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Since April, the Michelin star chef has distributed meals and food kits to millions of people across 135 cities. And to spread some ‘Roshni’ on Diwali, Khanna collaborated with some noteworthy brands to distribute mithai in 50 cities across India. For his heartwarming measures of distributing food since the start of the pandemic, the chef has also been honoured the prestigious 2020 Asia Game Changer Award.

Roshni: A Feed India Initiative Of Spreading Sweets Across 50 Cities On Diwali

Vikas Khanna, India’s popular culinary expert, has been making headlines after pandemic for various good reasons. As part of his efforts to provide millions of meals to poor Indians who have suffered greatly under the coronavirus lockdown, Khanna had organised the world’s largest food drive. Also, to spread smiles on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, the chef organised an initiative called ‘Roshni’ to distribute sweets to 50 cities across India. Brands like Bergner India, Nagpur Haldirams, Kesar Sweets and Paytm have thoroughly supported him in his noble initiative. Paytm has also shared a video of the distribution drive on Twitter.

The first box of sweets was offered to Mother Teresa in Jaipur, for blessings. Launching the #FeedIndia initiative in April, Khanna has already distributed food kits to 135 cities including Varanasi, Bengaluru, Mangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai.

The Chef Has Bagged The 2020 Asia Game Changer Award

According to a press release, speaking about the Diwali initiative, the star chef has stated, “This is the first time in 12 years that I won’t be home to celebrate Diwali with my family. Decided to spread sweetness in life of others who are lucky to be with their closed ones. I am thankful to everyone who has come together and helped me making this mithai distribution a success. A special thank you to the NDRF personnel.” He added,  “It is my honour to receive #AsiaGameChangers Award from Asia Society “Celebrating the Heroes of 2020. I receive this honour on behalf of millions of people who stood up to support each other during these testing times”. Khanna was the only Indian among the six nominees of the award.
