Affordable And Foldable House Looks Like The Future Of Housing As Anand Mahindra Shares Video

Business tycoon Anand Mahindra has always maintained his identity as someone who is more than just an industrialist. If you follow him on Twitter, you will know that he shares many videos and images that he comes across on the Internet. These videos are either drawing attention to raw talent, unique places, or crazy innovations. The recent one shared by him is a foldable house, which he thinks can be a good option for Indians.

Anand Mahindra Talks About Foldable House

The video shared on Twitter by Anand Mahindra features a house, but it’s not any other normal house: it’s a foldable house. Not at all joking. In no time, a huge rectangular box gets converted into a 500-square-foot house by just unfolding it one by one. This portable and foldable house opens up to the size of a studio apartment and is named the Casita. Boxabl is the company that has come up with this dwelling unit, and it is based in Las Vegas. The house costs about $50,000 ( 40.73 lakhs) and can be set up in a day.

The video shows the house being set up in time-lapse mode, and later the interior of this foldable house is shown. The interiors look lavish, just like a normal house would. The portable house’s kitchen and bathroom are connected and include a built-in refrigerator, toilet, and sink. Throughout transportation, this portion remains upright. Using connector plates, it can be affixed to any foundation.

Drains Itself During Floods

The website claims that these houses are bug, fire, mould, and wind resistant. It was also mentioned that the house drains itself out during floods. Anand Mahindra, while posting the video, spoke about the possibility of building such a foldable house at a cheaper cost in India. He also thought of such houses as post-disaster shelters. The video has garnered over 6.6 million views so far. Looking at the rates to buy houses or even rent them in Mumbai, we think such foldable houses, if available at affordable rates, can help us.

Some Netizens liked the idea of a foldable house. But many pointed out the price, which is nowhere near affordable. The second major concern expressed by many people was that it is nearly impossible to find land for the same in major cities, which they referred to as a hidden cost. For now, it is just an idea —let’s see if someday it unfolds into an affordable physical space with solutions to the pointed problems.
