Goa Authorities Ban Entry Into Water Bodies During Monsoon
This monsoon, if you’re visiting Goa, you’ll have to stay out of the water bodies. NDTV reported that the South Goa District Administration has issued a strict order banning people from entering the water at waterfalls and several other natural water bodies. According to the order, people are prohibited from swimming, bathing, diving, cliff-jumping, and taking part in any other activity that involves entering the water.
This ban has been imposed for 60 days. Authorities took this important step after witnessing a rise in drowning-related accidents. Such incidents increase every year, especially during the monsoon and heavy rains. Despite warning signs, awareness campaigns, and repeated requests from authorities, many tourists still enter dangerous areas.

Can Tourists Visit The Waterfall & Other Spots?
The ban doesn’t mean that tourists cannot visit waterfalls. Authorities have not closed these tourist spots and visitors can continue sightseeing, and taking photographs. However, they must stay out of the water.
As per authorities, water bodies may look safe at first glance but can become dangerous within minutes. As per NDTV, during the monsoon, rocks become very slippery and can easily cause people to fall. Many pools also hide deep spots, sharp rocks, and more.
The Goa administration has said that the ban on entering water bodies does not apply to police, NDRF, SDRF, fire services, or rescue teams. Tourists violating the law can face punishment, FIRs, and legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
