Now that lockdown guidelines are easing across the country as per the Central Government’s Unlock 1 Plan. Public transport, private vehicles and cab aggregators are gradually getting back on the streets. It’s your turn to finally wear your masks and commute within your own city. But rules continue to differ across the country and apply to non-containment zones. So to make things clearer for you, here are transport guidelines to be kept in mind in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkata
1. Transport Guidelines In Mumbai
- According to Phase 1 of “Mission Unlock”, the government of Maharashtra permits unrestricted inter-distrct movement of people in areas that come under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Mumbai, suburban Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and part of Raigad district fall under this.
- People travelling between Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivili, Vasai-Virar, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi and Panvel don’t need an e-pass.
- This relaxation only applies to personal vehicles. Auto rickshaws and taxis are permitted only for essential services.
- Inter-district and inter-state movement anywhere else in Maharashtra continues to be regulated.
2. Transportation Rules & Regulations In Delhi
- In the capital, the administration brought in many lockdown relaxations. Delhi Transport Corporation buses can commute with a maximum of 20 passengers.
- In four-wheelers, excluding the driver, more than two passengers are permitted.
- In two-wheelers, pillion riders are permitted.
- E-Rickshaws and auto-rickshaws can ply on the roads.
- Uber, Ola resumed their services. But only two passengers are permitted in one cab. Car-pooling and ride-sharing services remain prohibited.
- Metro services in Delhi remain halted.

3. Transportation In Delhi, Gurugram And Noida
- Due to varying regulations in each state, there is alot of confusions amongst commuters. So let’s clear this confusion for you.
- Haryana government resumed inter-state buses under the Central Government’s revised lockdown rules.
- Delhi sealed its borders for one week on June 1 due to a steep surge in coronavirus cases.
- Noida administration has also closed its border with Delhi until further notice. There is also 7-Day Quarantine For Delhi’s Asymptomatic Passengers
- The Supreme Court on June 4, directed Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana authorities to plan one common travel policy within a week. The court also recommended the states to implement one pass hat recognized across NCR.
4. Commuting In Bangalore, Inter-State Travel In Karnataka
- The Karnataka government states that there will be no restriction on inter-state movement for people and goods. Thus, there is no separate permissions, approvals or e-permits that is required for the movement of vehicles.
- However, those people who will be travelling from Maharashtra will have to go through seven days of institutional quarantine. They are required to present a COVID negative test.
- Transit travellers from Maharashtra have to show the train or flight ticket of their onward journey.
- The Karnataka government also permits state transport buses to operate even during the night curfew hours, 9 pm to 5 am.
- Autos, taxis and cabs like Uber and Ola resumed services and are allowed to operate during the curfew hours across the state.
- In Bangalore, buses (with limited seating), rickshaws and cars are back on the roads from 5 am to 9 pm.
- Sundays come with a strict night curfew between 7 pm and 7 am.
- The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has started 23 Vayu Vajra (AC Volvo) bus services to Kempegowda International Airport. - Metro services, however, remain suspended.
5. Travelling In Pune
- Citizens in Pune were already allowed to go for walks and ride cycles. And from June 5, they can also commute by auto-rickshaws, taxis and their own cars.
- But these relaxations only apply in areas that don’t fall under containment zones.
6. Travel Guidelines In Kolkata
- Government buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws are all back in operation in Kolkata, although they will limit the number of passengers.
- Taxis, radio taxis and auto-rickshaws are allowed with only two passengers. Kolkata Cabs Also Use Plastic Separators For Social Distancing
- Even private cars are permitted to travel with valid e-passes, but with only three passengers, including the driver.
- Ferry services have also resumed.
- However, private bus operators, have decided to stay off the streets fearing losses if they ferry fewer passengers.
- Local trains and metro services, which carry the most number of people in Kolkata and between the city and its suburbs, remain suspended.
So these are the basic things you need to keep in mind when you travel within your city. Apart from this, do remember to wear your masks and carry a hand sanitizer with you during our journey.
