India is now planning to build a high-speed bullet train between Delhi and Varanasi. The project is expected to make travel between these two cities a lot easier and will cut travel time to just 3 hours and 50 minutes. The bullet train will also make Delhi-Lucknow travel easier by reducing travel time to just 2 hours. Here is everything you need to know about this.

Delhi-Varanasi Bullet Train Coming Soon 

The Delhi-Varanasi bullet train project was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2026-27. According to The Indian Express, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the travel time between Delhi and Varanasi will be reduced to 3 hours and 50 minutes with this train.

The bullet train is also expected to make journeys between Delhi and Lucknow a lot faster by cutting travel time to just 2 hours. Currently, the fastest trains on this route are the Vande Bharat Express and the Shatabdi Express, which take around 6 hours 25 minutes and 6 hours 59 minutes, respectively, to complete the journey.

High-Speed Rail Corridor Expected To Boost Tourism 

According to The Indian Express, this high-speed rail corridor is also expected to make the Varanasi-Patna and Varanasi-Lucknow regions a single economic zone. Honestly, the Delhi-Varanasi bullet train project will definitely play a crucial role in India’s rail network. Delhi people will be able to visit Varanasi, also known as Kashi, a spiritual city, a lot more easily. Plus, the project is also expected to benefit local industries, tourism and regional development.

India is currently working on the construction of the country’s first high-speed rail corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. Many upcoming bullet train corridors are also in the pipeline. These include Mumbai to Pune, Pune to Hyderabad and Hyderabad to Bengaluru. You should know that bullet trains are considered excellent for transportation. They are a comfortable alternative to flying for short to medium-distance trips.
