J&K To Develop Mansar Lake After 70 Years; To Attract 20 Lakh Tourists Annually

Over the past few months, the government has launched various tourism projects in Jammu & Kashmir. From an open-roof luxury tour bus for Suchetgarh Border, sports activities at Dal lake, to a mesmerising cable car journey across mountains, the list seems to go on. Now, J&K will develop its iconic Mansar lake after 70 years to generate employment and tourism in the region. The development of Mansar Lake shall attract over 20 lakh tourists annually. Mansar Lake In J&K To Undergo Development For Tourism & Employment Purposes

Situated 60 km from Jammu city, Mansar lake attracts both tourists and locals all thanks to its crystal clear scenery and spellbinding beauty. It holds significance in the union territory for two reasons. Firstly, Mansar lake is a popular tourism spot, both for locals and tourists. Secondly, Mansar lake is a natural heritage site. It houses holy shrines like Narasimha, Durga, Sheshnag and Umapati Mahadev temples. Since its a tourism spot, shopkeepers, cab drivers and hoteliers receive employment here.  Schools and colleges take their students for picnics at the Mansar lake. So, the Mansar Lake Development Plan after 70 long years, holds a very important part in the hearts of the locals.

Mansar Lake To Attract Over 20 Lakh Tourists Annually

Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region inaugurated the Mansar Lake Development Plan in Jammu and Kashmir on November 1. This project shall attract over 20 lakh tourists annually. It shall also generate employment for 1.15 crore man-days with an income generate of 800 crores every year. The Union Minister stated to the Mint  “Today is a historic day for the people of Mansar Region, as the Mansar Lake Development Plan is getting fulfilled after a long wait of 70 years. “The number of national projects initiated in the region during the last six years are more than the number of such projects initiated in the earlier seven decades.”

Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of UT of J&K also stated: “Mansar is of immense importance from pilgrimage as well heritage point of view beyond being the most scenic attraction due to vast Mansar Lake and its flora and fauna.” Sinha also revealed that the government currently aims to make J&K, one of the most preferred tourist destinations on the World Map. The Union Territory accounts for 7% of its GDP from tourism alone.
