Jammu & Kashmir Launches Open-Roof Luxury Tourism Bus For Suchetgarh Border

Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism drive is in full swing. And to capitalise on the natural beauty that surrounds the area, Jammu authorities flagged off the first of its kind open-roof tourist luxury bus. The slogan, titled ‘Chalo Suchetgarh Border’ reverberated amongst the crowd. Jammu & Kashmir also organised sport activities to boost tourism in the Union Territory. Tourists can now witness and even participate in Shikara races at the Dal Lake. They can take part in kayaking and canoeing in the waterbodies there.

Jammu & Kashmir Gets First-Of-Its-Kind Luxury Open-Roof Bus

The launch of the luxurious ‘Garud Seva Open-Roof’ bus service marked the 41st World Tourism Day. Authorities observed this amid strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines at various tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir region. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma and Director Tourism Jammu, Raj Kumar Katoch jointly flagged off the 27-seater bus. The bus took off from Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) to Suchetgarh along the International Border on the outskirts of Jammu.

A spokesperson stated to media houses “The bus will run on a daily basis from Jammu at around 10.30 am towards Suchetgarh border for sightseeing. Other destinations covered enroute are Gharana wetland where migratory birds from various parts of the world visit.” The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu celebrated the World Tourism Day across Jammu Division at destinations. This includes  places like Suchetgarh Border, Katra, Bhimgarh Fort, Reasi, Mansar, Patnitop, Kishtwar, Basholi, Kishtwar and Poonch. Stakeholders amongst travel organizations, hotel associations and taxi union actively participated.

Jammu & Kashmir Commits To Promoting Tourism

The main function was organised at Suchetgarh border in collaboration with the senior officers of the 36 battalions of the BSF. Officials held the function at Nehru Park in Srinagar which comprised a Shikara race, kayaking, canoeing. The Secretary, Youth Services and Sports and Tourism, Sarmad Hafeez, presided over the function. He assured all stakeholders that the department is committed to promoting the tourism sector in a big way. The highlight of the rally was the participation of an 84-year-old cyclist, Ghulam Rasool.
