Marine Scientists Spot Real SpongeBob & Patrick In The Atlantic Ocean; Internet Can’t Keep Calm

If you loved to watch animated buddies SpongeBob and Patrick of cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants in your childhood, you will be excited to see their ‘real life’ versions now. A marine biologist named Christopher Mah shared a picture of the doppelgangers of the cartoon characters on his Twitter handle, stating, “*laugh* I normally avoid these refs..but WOW. REAL LIFE Sponge bob and Patrick! #Okeanos Retriever seamount 1885 m.” The yellow sponge-like creature in the picture resembles SpongeBob and the pink starfish beside it looks like his best friend Patrick. The creatures were spotted inside the Atlantic ocean.

SpongeBob Spotted On Underwater Mountain Inside Atlantic Ocean

Retriever Seamount, on which the two creatures have been spotted, is one of the four mountains beneath the Atlantic Ocean. The depth of the mountain is around 1885 m underwater and lies nearly 200 miles from New York City. Mah also mentioned the scientific names of the creatures. He wrote, “Scientific names: Hertwigia (sponge) and Chondraster (starfish).” The image went viral on social media and netizens shared GIFs of the characters in the comments.

In Reality, SpongeBob and Patrick Aren’t Friends And Here’s Why

Unlike the cartoon, the real-life replicas of SpongeBob and Patrick can’t be friends usually. As these sea stars actually feed on sponges. Mah has posted a picture showing how a star is feeding on one of the sponges. He wrote, “For those who actually WANT to see it? Here is Chondraster feeding on a sponge! (not the yellow “Spongebob” one though) from the #Okeanos North Atlantic canyons expedition in 2013.”

But the striking similarities of the creatures with the popular cartoon characters are leaving everyone delighted.
