Recently, the Interior Ministry in Kuwait announced that it is ending extensions to visit visas and absence permits. Yes, it was introduced due to the regional instability, and from September 1 onwards, it will be moving to the pre-instability procedures. Here’s what you need to know about this massive visa-related development coming in from Kuwait.
Kuwait To End Visit Visa Extension From September 1st
The Interior Ministry in Kuwait announced on August 20th, that it is ending extensions to all types of visit visas and absence permits from September 1st. As a result, it would be returning to the pre-war procedures. A report in the Kuwait Times mentions how authorities are automatically extending the duration of visit visas and permits. These were obtained for overstaying abroad after the instability that followed during the period.
The Extension Was Allowed Due To Exceptional Regional Circumstances
These instabilities, as a result, had caused major disruption to outbound and incoming flights. So, due to airspace closure for weeks, visit visas were extended automatically for expats. Moreover, there was also an extended duration of the permit that was sought by expats, which allowed them to overstay their absence period while they were outside the country.
Now, on X, the ministry has mentioned how it is ending. This automatic extension of visit visas for expats who are in the country will end on September 1st. So, basically, now they are going to return to normal procedures, which used to take place before February 28th. As revealed by the ministry, special extensions issued to expats that allow them to overstay outside the country are also ending on September 1st. These extensions would basically be valid for those who leave Kuwait until August 31st.

These Measures Were Introduced Back In February
Talking about this rule, Arabian Business mentioned how Kuwait announced back in February that all types of visit visas that are expired or due to expire during the extraordinary circumstances would receive a one-month extension. Authorities announced a full exemption on prescribed fees or any resulting fines. Now, according to the latest announcement, these exceptional arrangements are going to cease.
