This Dubai Resident Jumped Out Of A Plane To Mark 71st Birthday

Birthdays are always special, isn’t it? You might have heard of people celebrating their birthdays in big ways, but one Dubai man chose to something completely off-beat. Indian expatriate Harinarayan Nair celebrated his 71st birthday by jumping out of a plane. Yes, you read that right! Wondering how he did it? Read on!

Skydiving is the last thing you’d expect a senior citizen to do, but Nari’s adventurous nature made him jump out of the Skydive Dubai plane at 13,000 feet. “All those over the age of 70 must get a medical fitness certificate before skydiving as the blood pressure (BP) levels cannot be too high,” Nair told the Khaleej Times. However, unfortunately, Naif did not get a medical clearance to perform the dive as his BP was above normal.

“Normal BP is measured at 120/80. Mine was at 160/80. I went to three doctors, and one suggested I see a cardiologist check the condition of my heart,” he explained. Nair’s cardiologist also told him that his BP might spike up when he jumps out and that could prove to be very dangerous. However, nothing deterred Nair from pursuing his stunt. He spent a day performing yoga (makrasana), breathing exercises, and meditation to reach his goal BP levels.

Finally, on his birthday, his BP was at 140/80 to 145/80, which is permissible for people at that age. Nair was finally allowed to dive his birthday. Speaking about his experience, Nair said:“Honestly, I was not scared at all. Instead, I felt great exhilaration the moment I jumped out of the plane and spent the initial moments freefalling at 120km/hr,” he exclaimed.

Nair’s daughters, Richa and Shruti, and his son-in-law Varun have all gone skydiving in the past and Nair is delighted to be able to join the gang.

Well, this is not the first time the Nair has taken up an adventurous sport like this. In the past, Nair has also gone ziplining at Ras Al Khaimah as well as taken a ride in the fastest roller coaster in the world in Abu Dhabi.

Dubai Man Breaks The Guinness World Record For Crossing The UAE On Foot In 7 Days

A Dubai man has broken the Guinness World Record after walking across the seven emirates in the UAE in just seven days. Sean Burgess was the first to take up a challenge of this kind and smash it too. He walked and ran for up to 20 hours each day as he tackled 650km of hot, sandy terrain. He now holds the Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest Crossing of the United Arab Emirates on foot’. Here’s how he did it!

Putting your name on the Guinness World Record is a proud moment for anyone, but Sean’s motive behind this is enviable. Sean walked the walk to raise money through Gulf For Good for a Ugandan charity looking out for people of determination in some of the country’s poorest areas. And he’s so far raised over $10,000, with more coming in. And you can donate here.

Sean started off his challenge in Al Ghuwaifat which borders the UAE and Saudi Arabia. He then took the E11 road through Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman to Umm Al Quwain. While he did the challenge all by himself, Sean also garnered a huge support network to keep him safe while he was walking across the UAE.

The seven days walk “required the coordination, feeding and fueling of up to 20 people across multiple disciplines (film, transport, medical, support, etc), 7-8 support vehicles, establishing dozens of camps and checkpoints, and negotiating with government entities to ensure I was protected on the roads at all times. To make this whole thing success is incredible, but doing so on a charity event budget is nothing short of a miracle.”

The Dubai lad is back home and recovering, but his sleeping pattern hasn’t come back to normal just yet. Meanwhile, Emirati Female Footballer Breaks Guinness World Record; Here’s How She Did It All.
