What’s It?

Smart gates at the airport, smart pharmacies equipped with robots – one can comfortably say that the UAE is well on road to shifting towards a smarter country.

Now, the UAE cabinet has gone a step further in making the country smarter. The UAE government has decided to launch an Electronic Family Book for all expats and residents. The smart book will be used for all transactions, thereby reducing long queues in customer care centers.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has also given his nod for the new policy. The e-book is launched with a motive to reduce traffic in customer care centers up to 80% by 2021.

The Electronic book will be directly linked to the Emirates ID and will come into effect from 1 July onwards. All data will then be stored in a smart chip of the ID card, thereby reducing fraudulent transactions.

A series of workshops will be conducted prior to the launching of the Electronic Book.
