Amid this pandemic, Indian airports have stepped up their game to create a safe and hygienic environment for its passengers. Delhi’s IGI airport and Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport recently bagged the second and third places respectively for the safest airports in the world while combating the COVID-19 pandemic. And now the latest news is that Pune airport will soon get a swanky new terminal with multi-level car parking, restaurants, boarding bridges and whatnot. With an investment of ₹475 crores, this terminal will see the light of day by March 2022. Read on to know more.
Pune Airport To Get Makeover With New Terminal
Pune International Airport will soon get a new integrated terminal building. According to Airports Authority of India, this terminal shall accommodate 2300 passengers during peak hours. It will undergo completion by March 2022. AAI put out a statement stating “The swanky new terminal building will be able to process 2300 passengers (1700 Domestic and 600 International) during peak hours. Equipped with five boarding bridges, 34 check-in counters, and in-line baggage handling system, the terminal will be an energy-efficient building with 4-star GRIHA Rating.”

Passengers can chill at various food and beverage retail outlets inside this terminal. Apart from restaurants, passengers can park their cars the new Multi-Level Car Park here. An investment of ₹120 crores has been offered for the construction of this car parking. With a parking capacity of a whopping 1024 cars, a sky bridge shall connect this parking area to the departure area of the existing building. While the new airport terminal itself will undergo completion by March 2022, the multi-level car parking will be ready by April 2022.

Once Pune airport gets a new terminal, over 2300 passengers including 1700 domestic and 600 international can be accommodated here. This terminal will also have 5 boarding bridges, in-line baggage handling system and 34-check-in counters. Fortunately, AAI stated that over 40 per cent of the construction of this new terminal is completed.
