With states imposing night curfews and a ban on public gatherings and parties, many Indians resorted to ordering in for New Year’s Eve. And a testimony to this fact is that Swiggy recorded a whopping 9500 orders per minute on New Year’s Eve in India. This is the highest ever for food delivery in the country. Interestingly, it’s not just people from metro cities that preferred food deliveries to ring in 2022, there was a massive number of new users on the platform from tier 2 and 3 cities. Swiggy Witnessed 9500 Food Orders Per Minute On New Year’s Eve

On December 31, 2021, online delivery food aggregator Swiggy broke its previous record for 5500 food orders for December 31, 2020. Swiggy ended the night with a high with 9500 orders per minute for food by early dinner itself. The online food delivery platform claimed this was the highest ever for food delivery in India. This is around 1.7 times that of last year’s peak. Swiggy further revealed that it witnessed a 177 per cent rise in active users on the platform as the evening progressed. There was a 68 per cent increase in new users from tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Mangalore, Patna, Surat and Ludhiana.

Biryani Was The Most Ordered Dish On Swiggy For 2021

In tier 2 and 3 cities, Vizag clocked in 190 orders per minute, which is the highest in this category. Kerala’s Palakkad and Odisha’s Rourkela witnessed a 300 per cent growth in orders. In 2021, Swiggy announced that it delivered 115 biryanis per minute in India and samosa orders were equal to New Zealand’s entire population. Well, these milestones couldn’t have been reached without the support of lakhs of delivery partners on the road. We thank them for making New Year’s Eve a memorable one.
