Delhi has been witnessing a raging dust storm since the evening of Friday, May 10. It has significantly affected its day-to-day operations. From flight delays and roadblocks to advisories and even deaths, here are all of the important updates from the National Capital Region regarding the ongoing storm.

1. Indian Meteorological Department Or IMD Issues Advisory Amid Storm
#Duststorm/#thunderstorm with rain (followed by rain) and gusty winds with speed of 50-70 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, pic.twitter.com/xufJKmMdt8

#Impact expected over Delhi-NCR & adjoining areas due to duststorm:
➢ Strong winds may damage plantation, horticulture and standing crops.
➢ Partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds.

The IMD has shared updates and advisories on X (formerly known as Twitter) and has recommended that the residents stay indoors. They have also advised against taking shelter under trees.
2. A Giant Tree Falls On B2 Janakpuri; Stretch To Be Avoided

The Delhi Traffic Police also made a post on X informing locals and non-locals alike that a giant tree had fallen owing to the storm. The tree fell on Janakpuri near Bharti College. Hence, commuters have been advised to avoid the Dharam Marg and Janakpuri stretch to avoid traffic snarls.
3. As Many As Nine Flights Diverted To Jaipur From The Delhi Airport

According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, at least nine flights had to be diverted from the Indira Gandhi International Airport or IGIA. The diverted flights were sent to the airport in Jaipur.
4. Two People Dead And 23 People Injured Owing To The Dust Storm

As per a recent Deccan Herald article, two people have died so far owing to storm-related accidents. Furthermore, around 23 people were also injured owing to the storm. Trees and electric poles are being uprooted because of strong gusts of winds.
5. Officials Receive More Than 150 Distress Calls During This Storm

If reports are to go by, the Delhi Police officials have received as many as 152 calls. Of these, around 130 calls were to the Delhi Fire Service or DFS. They also received calls about portions of buildings collapsing.
