When it comes to food, 2020 has been the year of Dalgona Coffee, Banana Bread and Cereal Pancakes. And while these are delicious dishes, this year has also given rise to a variety of bizarre food trends that left us really confused. A weird mix of savoury and sweet dishes took place, that just ended up being inedible. To pique your curiosity, here’s a compiled list of 7 of the weirdest food trends of 2020 that made us throw up.

1. Chilli Jalebis

Forget the Bollywood song Jalebi Bai and say Jalebi Bye! Because your favourite mithai got a twist that no one asked for. A Twitterati posted a picture of crispy jalebis dunked in soya sauce with garlic and bell peppers and called it Chilli Jalebis. And the internet went so mad about it that they commented: “Arrest this guy”. Well, for all those of you crying over this bizarre invention, know that you’re not alone.

2. Ice Cream Vada Pav

Vada Pav got a whole lot sweeter this year as a Gujarati vendor started selling Ice Cream Vada Pav. The vendor replaced the potato vada with a scoop of ice cream. He topped it with chocolate sauce, tutti fruity, nuts and place the mixture between two pieces of bun. This video went viral on social media and left netizens divided over whether it’s a great idea or not. We’ll leave it to you, to taste and let us know.

3. Ferrero Rocher Manchurian

The queen of fancy chocolates Ferrero Rocher also wasn’t spared from the multiple food trends taking place this godforsaken year. A viral picture took social media by a storm of Ferrero Rocher floating in brown Manchurian gravy. Ferrero Rocher Manchurian ended up combing a sweet world with a savoury one and the result was just weird in every way.

4. Kaju Katli Chicken Soup

Just when you think, the food trend can’t get any more unappetizing, behold, the Kaju Katli Chicken Soup! Pieces of silver foiled Kaju Katli swam in the signature clear chicken soup, gasping for air. And the internet gasped in shock too. The ever favourite festive mithai with chicken soup is nothing short of a disaster. 5. Ganja Sabzi

This food trend wasn’t supposed to be a trend it was actually an accident. But then again, even ice cream cones were invented by accident. A family from Uttar Pradesh ended up feeling dizzy after consuming methi ki sabzi. On consulting the doctor they realised that a vegetable seller unknowingly gave them a packet of ganja or weed instead of methi. So, ganja sabzi came into existence, and this food invention left desis in a dizzy.

6. Maggi Pani Puri
